Free School Travel

Students may be eligible for free or subsidised travel to and from school or TAFE under the School Student Travel Scheme (SSTS).

Different subsidies or passes are available depending on where you live and the availability of public transport.

​

Briefly, if the student lives a certain distance from school (click on the specific school below to view a map) they are entitled to free travel within our area.

​

Kindergarten to Year 2 - No minimum walking distance criteria applies to these students.

Years 3 to 6 - The straight line distance from their home address to school is more than 1.6 km or the walking distance from home to school is 2.3 km or further.

Years 7 to 12 - The straight line distance from their home address to school is more than 2 km, or the walking distance from home to school is 2.9 km or further.

Additional information for applying for free school travel with Alpine Charters

If your school child is travelling with Alpine Charters under the SSTS please select OKF Holdings Pty Ltd T/A Alpine Charters as the Bus Operator in addition to either Cooma Coaches or Snowliner Coaches if applicable.

Currently Alpine Charters do not issue School Bus Passes or Opal Cards.

What if my application is unsuccessful?

Briefly students who are not eligible for a free school travel pass can:

 

TfNSW assess each application on its individual merits.  During a review they will take into account the original assessment of the straight line (radial) distance between the student's home and school (see visual maps below), the students walking route and any medical conditions and supporting evidence.
